Cluster introductory course
All members of Leibniz Universität Hannover can join (free of charge) a basic introductory course for the LUIS compute cluster. In this course, you will get an overview of the system, learn about its capabilities, how to set up batch jobs, work with software modules and various file systems as well as how to transfer files to and from the cluster. Preliminary experience in working with compute clusters is not required, but at least some familiarity with Linux and/or the command line will help a great deal.
Ideally, you should already have a working cluster account and know your password (provided by the project management in your institute).
The course (duration: about 2 hours) is offered approximately every six months, and it will be announced on this page once the date has been fixed.
The next cluster introductory course will take place Wednesday, November 4th 2026 at 10.00 a.m. It will be held ONLINE using Jitsi - Meeting Link (preliminary, please check back for potential change)
The course slides are here (updated from time to time).
If you are interested, you can let us know by sending an email saying you would like to join to cluster-help@luis.uni-hannover.de at your earliest convenience. No individual confirmation to such mails or to messages using “reply-to” the cluster welcome mail will be sent out, however. When it's time, simply join using the above link.
Should we need to cancel a course, we will announce it via the Cluster-News mailing list and also publish it on this page. Users who need to start immediately are encouraged to simply have a look at the slides. If there are any questions that are not answered in this documentation, do not hesitate to ask (remember to use a subject different from “Einladung zum Einführungsvortrag” if you want an answer; here are some hints how you can help us help you by creating a case containing the things we need to know).
